However, America has taken its usual path. To maintain their world dominance they are provoking another war in Europe. A war is always good for America. They even call the Second World War which killed 50 million people in Europe and Russia, a good war. It was good for America because the US emerged from this war as the world’s leading power. The Cold War which ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union was also good for them. Now the US again wants to maintain its leadership at the expense of Europe. US leadership is being threatened by a rapidly rising China. The world today is shifting to yet another cycle, this time political. This cycle lasts centuries and is associated with the global institutions of regulatory economics. We are now moving from the American cycle of capital accumulation to an Asian cycle. This is another crisis that is challenging US hegemony.

To maintain their leading position in the face of competition with a rising China and other Asian countries Americans are starting a war in Europe. They want to weaken Europe, break up Russia, and subjugate the entire Eurasian continent. That is, instead of a development zone from Lisbon to Vladivostok, which is proposed by President Putin, the US wants to start a chaotic war on this territory, embroil all Europe in a war, devalue to European capital, write off its public debt, under the burden of which the US is already falling apart, write off what they owe to Europe and Russia, subjugate our economic space and establish control over resources of the giant Eurasian continent. They believe that this is the only way they can maintain their hegemony and beat China. Unfortunately the American geopolitics that we see playing out is exactly like the 19th century. They think in terms of the geopolitical struggles of the British Empire: divide and conquer. Pit nations against others, embroil them in conflict, and start a world war. Americans, unfortunately, continue this old British policy to solve their problems. Russia has been chosen as a victim of this policy while the Ukrainian people are the weapon of choice, and cannon fodder in a new world war.

It’s dull. It’s not worth the time it takes to understand it. And all our lives, we’ve been lied to. War. Poverty. Revolution. They all hinge on economics. And economics all rests on one key concept: money. Money. It is the economic water in which we live our lives. We even call it ‘currency’; it flows around us, carries us in its wake. Drowns those who are not careful. We use it every day in nearly every transaction we conduct. We spend our lives working for it, worrying about it, saving it, spending it, pinching it. It defines our social status. It compromises our morals. People are willing to fight, die and kill for it. But what is it? Where does it come from? How is it created? Who controls it? It is a remarkable fact that, given its central importance in our lives, not one person in a hundred could answer such basic questions about money as these.

Europe hasn't recovered, because it hasn't let itself. Too much fiscal austerity and too little monetary stimulus have, instead, put it more than halfway to a lost decade that's already worse than the 1930s. It's a greater depression. And as the latest GDP numbers show, it's not getting any less so. Indeed, the eurozone as a whole didn't grow at all in the second quarter. Neither did France, whose economy has actually been flat for a year now. Germany's economy fell 0.2 percent from the previous quarter—and that after revisions revealed it had quietly gone through a double-dip recession in early 2013. 

Though that's still much better than Italy: Its GDP also fell 0.2 percent, but its triple-dip recession has now wiped out all growth since 2000. The closest thing approximating good news was that Spain's dead-cat bounce recovery continued with 0.6 percent growth. But it still has 24.5 percent unemployment. Here's a bit of perspective: it's been six-and-a-half years, and eurozone GDP is still 1.9 percent lower than it was before the Great Recession began. It "only" took the U.S. economy seven years to get back to where it'd been before the Great Depression hit. But it's a little misleading to just call this a depression. It's worse than that. Europe is turning Japanese. The combination of zombie banks, a rapidly aging population and, most importantly, too-tight money have pushed it into a "lowflationary" trap that makes it hard to grow, and is even harder to escape from.

The US government was deeply involved in overthrowing the former elected government in Ukraine as well as the murder of civilians by the current “illegitimate regime” in Kiev, a political commentator says. Ukraine has been gripped by an ongoing crisis since early 2014 when former pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych was ousted after a series of violent events and replaced by the pro-Western Petro Poroshenko. More than 1,543 people have been killed since mid-April in Ukraine’s eastern regions, according to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and the World Health Organization (WHO). 

“The United States is up to its eyeballs in toppling the legitimately elected government of Ukraine,” Mike Harris, an editor at Veterans Today, told Press TV. “The US invested $5 billion of taxpayer money to bring down the Yanukovych regime, we know this,” Harris said in a phone interview on Wednesday. “Since the new regime has been in place, we have seen the illegitimate government in Kiev, declare war upon the people of Ukraine and has been bombing and killing many, many civilians, young women, young children, using weapons like white phosphorus,” he added.

Europe’s mainstream media have been giving only scant attention recently to the humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine. There are also very few Western reporters in eastern Ukraine, which is viewed (correctly) as a highly dangerous environment. Yet, the toll of human suffering in eastern Ukraine continues to rise. 

To about 1,500, in terms of the lives lost—which compares to Gaza. To about 800,000, in terms of refugees and internally displaced persons, which is about one-half of the figure for Iraq. Of that number, 700,000 have crossed the border into Russia. The city of Donetsk, with a normal population of a million people, stands half-deserted and fears being stormed. What is striking in this situation is that only Moscow seems to care. o Kiev, there is officially no humanitarian catastrophe in the country’s east. To the international community at large, the situation is being adequately addressed as it is and needn’t be treated as a serious emergency. The geopolitics behind these humanitarian concerns or the lack thereof are clear.

Moscow calls for attention to the situation in Donbass in order to put Kiev on the spot for the massive suffering and damage the Ukrainian army and paramilitary forces are causing. The rebels whom Russia supports call for a cease-fire, on humanitarian grounds, to win a breathing space now that Kiev’s forces are on the offensive. 

Once the cease-fire takes effect, they also hope to engage Kiev in negotiations about the future status of Donbass, which is anathema to the Ukrainian leadership. Under these circumstances, media spotlight would definitely help Moscow’s cause and hinder Kiev’s actions. Of course, pretending that there is no humanitarian crisis and quietly letting Kiev to finish off the rebels and re-establish control over Donbass is a gamble. While the Western media are looking elsewhere, the Russian ones are heavily focused on what is going on in Donetsk and Lugansk and the many small towns in between. When a certain level of suffering is reached, the situation may become intolerable, in President Putin’s view. As a result, a Russian humanitarian intervention, with some military backing, may ensue. If this were to happen, this would raise the stakes dramatically for everyone: Ukraine, Russia, and the West.

US steps to increase military cooperation with Ukraine, providing its National Guard arms and training amid Kiev’s military operation, can be considered complicity in war crimes, Russian MP Irina Yarovaya believes. “In a situation, when the National Guard of Ukraine is leading punitive operations in the Donbass, the US promises to allocate $19 million for training and equipping this military structure – which also includes militants of the ultra-nationalist organization Right Sector – can be considered a direct financial and organizational complicity of the US in the genocide of civilians in south-east of Ukraine, as well as war crimes,” the head of Russia’s Lower House committee for security and countering corruption, Irina Yarovaya, told the press.

The United States also pledged about $8 million in new aid to bolster the Ukrainian Border Guard Service, apparently to cut what western officials often refer to in their public comments as a flow of Russian weapons. However, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said this week that the United Nations did not possess any “firm evidence” that Russia supplied anti-Kiev forces with weapons, Itar-Tass reported. And this remark was ignored by the western media as “not fitting the “purposeful campaign of disinformation, which aims at trying to shuffle off the responsibility for the events in Ukraine onto Russia,” Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out. Although the US plan requires Congressional approval, this is expected to be forthcoming judging by the level of anti-Russian rhetoric coming from US legislators. Moscow has already highlighted the apparent efforts by the US to spin and distort facts to provide the media with anti-Russian“propaganda brew,” with Foreign Ministry slamming the US over its double standards on Friday.

As the Ebola outbreak continues to cause concern, President Barack Obama has signed an amendment to an executive order that would allow him to mandate the apprehension and detention of Americans who merely show signs of “respiratory illness.” The executive order, titled Revised List of Quarantinable Communicable Diseases, amendsexecutive order 13295, passed by George W. Bush in April 2003, which allows for the, “apprehension, detention, or conditional release of individuals to prevent the introduction, transmission, or spread of suspected communicable diseases.” 

The amendment signed by Obama replaces subsection (b) of the original Bush executive order which referred only to SARS. Obama’s amendment allows for the detention of Americans who display, “Severe acute respiratory syndromes, which are diseases that are associated with fever and signs and symptoms of pneumonia or other respiratory illness, are capable of being transmitted from person to person, and that either are causing, or have the potential to cause, a pandemic, or, upon infection, are highly likely to cause mortality or serious morbidity if not properly controlled.'.

The Clifton Road hospital has a specially built isolation unit to treat patients exposed to certain serious infectious diseases. Set up in collaboration with the Atlanta-based U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the unit is physically separate from other patient areas and is one of only four such facilities in the country. 

The Associated Press reported Thursday that the Ebola death toll passed 700 in West Africa as security forces went house-to-house in Sierra Leone’s capital looking for patients and others exposed to the disease. The CDC warned against travel to Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The AP also said that almost half of the 57 new deaths reported by the World Health Organization occurred in Liberia, where two Americans, Dr. Kent Brantly of Texas and Nancy Writebol, a North Carolina-based missionary, are also sick with Ebola. It was unknown which of the two was coming to Atlanta. Quoting an unidentified source, CNN reported Thursday evening that a medical charter flight left Cartersville to evacuate the two Americans from Monrovia, Liberia.

Os projécteis incendiários anti-tanque atravessaram parcialmente o cockpit e saíram do outro lado numa forma ligeiramente deformada. (Peritos forenses em aviação possivelmente poderiam encontrá-los no solo presumivelmente controlado pelos militares ucranianos do regime de Kiev – o tradutor). Afinal de contas, o seu impacto é calculado para penetrar a blindagem sólida de um tanque. Além disso, os projécteis de estilhaçamento explosivo, devido aos seus numerosos impactos, também deverão provocar explosões maciças no interior do cockpit, uma vez que são concebidos para assim fazer. Dada a rápida sequência de disparo do canhão GSh-302, isto provocará uma rápida sucessão de explosões dentro da área do cockpit num curto espaço de tempo. Recorde: cada um deles é suficiente para destruir um tanque.

Claims are made with little to no evidence and based on warped logic, in other words presented not with further experts’ analyses in mind,”opens the lengthy tirade by the Russian Foreign Ministry, in response to the allegations detailed in the State Department report released on Tuesday. “The purpose seems to be to create a wall of information noise to incite other countries, and to boil up a propagandist brew for the media. Or does the US administration still sincerely deceive itself that the world can take Washington’s word?” The US report never specified how exactly Russia violated the treaty, instead offering a vague finding that: “The United States has determined that the Russian Federation is in violation of its obligations under the INF Treaty not to possess, produce, or flight-test a ground-launched cruise missile (GLCM) with a range capability of 500 km to 5,500 km, or to possess or produce launchers of such missiles.” This would be a direct violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) signed by Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev in 1987, which banned missiles that could carry nuclear warheads in the range of 500-5,500 km. The White House described the supposed transgression as a“very serious matter” of which it has been aware since 2008, again not naming the suspect.

John Pilger, author, journalist and filmmaker, talks to Going Underground host Afshin Rattansi about western media spin. He says that western media portrays the Israel-Palestine conflict as a war between two equal sides, and one of them, Palestine is attacking the other. Whilst there have been attacks from Gaza, they are up against the fourth biggest military in the world and under siege from illegal occupiers, yet from the reporting in our media we are supposed to be sympathetic towards the illegal occupiers of Palestine. He also says that Britain has supplied munitions to Israel, and has done nothing to improve the situation. With the reporting of Ukraine, it has a cold war anti-Russian sentiment running through it, and there is a suppression of assaults by an illegitimate government which came to power in elections that only happened in the west of the country. Tragedies like the deaths in Odessa are repressed and the victims blamed, because there are worthy victims, and unworthy victims, and the people of eastern Ukraine are unworthy victims, because they are associated with the most unworthy place of all – Russia.

He thinks that that the problems with journalism are based on systems that trainee journalists are not equipped to navigate – ‘once they become a BBC trainee they’re lost’. Young people are not interested in the ‘unwatchable’ 10 o’clock news, ‘to be informed by it is impossible’. He believes that people are not swallowing BBC speak any more, but there is still a certain credibility given to the BBC. He points out the difference between this and totalitarian countries, such as the Soviet Union, was that people in those countries knew they were being lied to, and they laughed at the news. And whilst people in this country may suspect what they read in the press, there is not the overall cynicism existed in the old Stalinist world or the recognition of censorship that exists in western media.

The UK’s parliamentary Defence Committee has demanded that Western military powers strengthen NATO to prepare for confrontation with Russia. The report by the cross-party group of Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs complains that the “NATO alliance has not considered Russia as an adversary or a potential territorial threat to its Member States for twenty years” and has now only been “forced to do so as a result of Russia’s recent actions” in eastern Ukraine. 

In the interim, NATO alliance has been weakened as member states have cut their defence budgets leaving it “ill-prepared” to face up to Russian “aggression” and potentially lacking the “collective political will to take concerted action…” To remedy these supposed failings, the Defence Committee calls on September’s NATO summit in Wales to expand the “existing NATO rapid reaction force”, undertake the “pre-positioning of equipment in the Baltic States”, establish a “continuous (if not technically ‘permanent’) presence of NATO troops in the Baltics” and re-establish “large-scale military exercises including representatives from all NATO Member States.” It also advocates an increase in defence spending by all member states. Most significant is the committee’s proposal that the alliance should broaden the terms of Articles 4 and 5 in its founding treaty, which trigger collective action in the event of an “armed attack” on a NATO ally. The “criteria, doctrine and responses to calls under Article 4 for ‘collective security’ support against asymmetric attacks” must be re-examined, it states. In particular, it argues that the word “armed” should be removed from Article 5 so as to enable action in response to any form of attack. This should include Russia’s ability to “paralyse an opponent in the pursuit of its interests with a range of tools including psychological operations, information warfare and intimidation with massing of conventional forces,” even where such actions are not “attributable”.

It was ten days ago when on the heels of Russia's 30-minute detailed presentation of what it believes happened to MH-17, the US government released a satellite trajectory map of what it says was the flight's path and the site from which the missile was shot as well as various other satellite images "proving" the missile that took down the Boeing 777 was fired by the pro-Russian separatists. Yesterday the Russian defense ministry finally responded to the US release stating that the "satellite images Kiev published as ‘proof’ it didn’t deploy anti-aircraft batteries around the MH17 crash site carry altered time-stamps and are from days after the MH17 tragedy." In other words, the evidence the US has present to form public opinion was in the form of "altered images carrying wrong time-stamps." The satellite image on the left was provided by the Russian Defense Ministry on 14 July, 2014. On the right is the image that Kiev claims were taken by its satellites on July 16, 2014. RT reports that the images, which Kiev claims were taken by its satellites at the same time as those taken by Russian satellites, are neither Ukrainian nor authentic, according to Moscow's statement. The Defense Ministry said the images were apparently made by an American KeyHole reconnaissance satellite, because the two Ukrainian satellites currently in orbit, Sich-1 and Sich-2, were not positioned over the part of Ukraine’s Donetsk Region shown in the pictures. The Defense ministry further alleges weather and lighting conditions in the images were not possible at the dates and times Ukraine claims they were made, the Russian ministry said.
